Gayatri Joshi and her husband Vikas Oberoi narrowly escaped a car crash involving a Ferrari, a Lamborghini and a camper van occurred on a rural road in Sardinia, Italy on Wednesday. The accident killed two elderly couple. A video of the accident had gone viral. In the aftermath, according to a report by CNBC TV18, no prima facie case has been registered against Vikas Oberoi.
The State Department in Italy has launched an official investigation into the accident, in which the Chairman and MD of Oberoi Realty was also driving a car, that got eventually involved in the fatal accident. As part of the investigation, a technical expert is already on the case, who’ll be sifting through all the evidence to determine what led to the fatal crash. Meanwhile, Oberoi Reality has issued an official statement which reads, “Our chairman and managing director Mr Vikas Oberoi and his wife Mrs Gayatri Oberoi had met with accident in Sardinia, Italy on 2nd October 2023. By God’s grace they both are unhurt and have returned back home to Mumbai safely.”
Additionally, as per another report by Daily Mail, the ‘double road homicide’ is also expected to be investigated by the prosecutors in Sardinia’s Cagliari. If found guilty, Vikas Oberoi might have to serve a sentence of 7 years of rigorous imprisonment.
According to multiple media reports, the collision took place when a red Ferrari and a blue Lamborghini attempted to overtake the camper van at the same time, causing it to overturn. Tragically, the Ferrari caught fire, claiming the lives of the elderly couple inside, identified as Melissa Krautli, 63, and Markus Krautli, 67, from Switzerland, according to a report by Free Press Journal.
Gayatri confirmed the news of her accident to the publication. She added that she and her husband were doing “absolutely fine”. “Vikas and I are in Italy. We met with an accident here… With gods grace, we both are absolutely fine,” she was quoted by the portal.
