England skipper Heather Knight won the toss and elected to bat first against India women’s team at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. After taking an unassailable 2-0 lead, the visitors decided to make some changes in their XI to rest the star players and give chances to players who warmed the bench in the first two matches.
England have played quality cricket thus far in all three departments as Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. failed to match the intensity but they will look to claim the consolation win on Sunday.
Heather announced four changes in the squad as they want young players to get the opportunity to shine.
“We have played some brilliant cricket. The bowlers were superb last evening. We have few younger players today getting a chance. The crowd keeps getting quiet when we get a wicket,” Heather Knight said at the toss.
Meanwhile, India made just one change as star all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar was dropped from the side and Amanjot Kaur was picked in place of her.
Meanwhile, Harmanpreet at the toss, admitted that the batting has been the area of concern for them in the series, while the bowlers have done well.
“We just want to play positive cricket. We were looking to bowl and we got that, we just need to go there and express ourselves. We got some positive results, we need to keep working hard and keep doing the right things. Pleased with our bowling department in particular, they have done really well. Batting has been a bit of a concern. Amanjot in for Pooja,” she said at the toss.
Earlier, on a day uncapped Indian cricketers won fat pay-cheques in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction, Shafali Verma (0), Smriti Mandhana (10), skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (9), Deepti Sharma (0) cut a sorry figure as India were shot out for 80 in 16.2 overs.
In reply, England cantered home in 11.2 overs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
