Although Sharmila Tagore’s daughter Saba Ali Khan does not belong to Bollywood, she aptly knows how to steal the limelight with her social media presence. From sharing adorable photographs of her nephews to posting major throwback photographs of the Pataudi family, Saba’s online posts often end up creating a massive buzz on the internet. Now, on Friday evening, the Pataudi kin uploaded rare photos of her mother Sharmila Tagore, and father Mansoor Ali Khan from their engagement ceremony.
In the monochromatic stills, Sharmila Tagore keeps her best ethnic foot forward in designer wear. Accessorised by statement jewelry, the iconic Bollywood star kept her hair tied in a braided hair-do. Meanwhile, Mansoor Ali Khan looks dapper in a black sherwani. In one photo, Khan can be seen exchanging rings with Tagore, in another he holds the latter close. The couple appears to be extremely happy as the camera captures them together. While sharing the photographs online, Saba Ali Khan captioned them, “Will you marry me? He asked…And she said, Yes!" Take a look at the rare moments below:
It seems that Sharmila Tagore and Mansoor Ali Khan’s paths crossed each other back in 1965. They met at a party when Khan became the youngest captain of the Indian cricket team, meanwhile Tagore was adored by the masses for her exceptional roles on the silver screen. Previously while opening up about their religious difference, Tagore told Telheka, that the duo didn’t even know the meaning of the words secular or communal when they took the decision of getting hitched.
According to Tagore, the two were young in love and all they wanted to do was to be together. She said, “When we decided to get married, we didn’t even know the words secular or communal. We were in the throes of young love. We didn’t know what the fuss around us was all about. We weren’t aware of the larger ramifications because, for us, the world began and ended with each other."
It was back in December 1968 when Sharmila Tagore converted to Islan under the name Ayesha Begum as she tied the knot with the titular Nawab of Pataudi. The couple shared three children, the eldest one, actor Saif Ali Khan, the middle child jewellery designer Saba Ali Khan, and the youngest actress Soha Ali Khan. Mansoor Ali Khan passed away at age 70 due to respiratory failure.
