It’s almost Christmas and winter is fully here in Delhi-NCR with the minimum temperature dropping to 4.9 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest day of the season and colder than Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla.

According to the latest weather bulletin by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi’s Safdarjung observatory recorded minimum temperature at 4.9 degrees Celsius, with maximum expected to be around 24 degrees.

Delhi is colder than Shimla today, as the minimum temperature in Himachal Pradesh’s capital city, which is a tourists’ favourite for snowfall, logged 6.8 degrees Celsius.

The national capital on Thursday recorded a minimum temperature settled at 6.2 degrees Celsius, the lowest this season so far, according to IMD data. The mercury recorded a high of 24.1 degrees Celsius, one notch above the season’s average, the IMD’s weather bulletin showed.

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) on Thursday settled at 326 in the ‘very poor’ category.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’.

Kashmir Sees Respite From Cold Wave, Some Areas Still Below Freezing Point

While the mercury settled several degrees below the freezing point in some areas, most of Kashmir saw some respite in cold wave conditions as the minimum temperature improved across the valley, officials said on Friday. Srinagar city — the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir — recorded a low of minus 3.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday night which was higher than the previous night’s minus 5.4 degrees Celsius.

Srinagar had experienced the coldest night of the winter on Wednesday night.

Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, which is one of the base camps for Amarnath Yatra, recorded minimum temperature at minus 5.0 degrees Celsius, while the famous ski resort of Gulmarg in Baramulla district recorded a low of minus 3.4 degrees Celsius, officials said.
