New Zealand great Chris Cairns has shared a major update on his recovery via social media.

One of the finest cricketers to play for New Zealand, Chris Cairns is reportedly have been progressing well after suffering a major heart attack back in 2021.

As per media reports, on Monday, the former New Zealand player was seen walking into a pub for the first time in more than two years since suffering a heart attack and a spinal injury.

Cairns shared a video of his movement on Instagram. In the video, he can be seen entering a bar with the help of crutches.

The 53-year-old seemed to be in some discomfort but did not forget to smile while resting his hand on a table.

“Day 1 of many that lie ahead…what a team…I’m so blessed and cannot thank you all enough,” Cairns wrote on Instagram, with the hashtags “not done yet” and “how you endure”.

In August 2021, Cairns had to be hospitalised after suffering a heart attack at his home in Australia’s capital, Canberra.

Later, he was airlifted to Sydney.

The major health scare reportedly caused an aortic dissection.

Cairns was treated with four open-heart surgeries but he had a spinal stroke during the operation that eventually paralysed him from the waist down.

Six months after dealing with the spinal stroke, Cairns was diagnosed with bowel cancer.

“I was told yesterday I have bowel cancer…big shock and not what I was expecting after what was supposed to be a routine checkup,” Cairns had informed on Instagram in February last year.

Arguably the greatest all-rounder ever to have played for New Zealand, Cairns continues to share his recovery-related updates on social media.

Cairns represented New Zealand in 62 Tests, 215 ODIs and two T20Is between 1989 and 2006.

He was the sixth man to achieve the double of 200 wickets and 3000 runs in March 2004.

Cairns scored over 8000 runs and took 400 wickets during his international career. .
