New Delhi: Terming as 'undemocratic' Uttar Pradesh government's denial of permission to its President Rajnath Singh to visit riot-hit Muzaffarnagar, BJP on Saturday alleged "Congress-SP collusion and conspiracy" were behind the communal violence in the state.

"Uttar Pradesh government wants to hide the truth of the matter by preventing the top leaders of BJP from visiting the riot-hit areas. The Samajwadi Party government of UP has stopped Singh from visiting the riot-hit areas and sharing the pain of the riot victims. "This step of Akhilesh Yadav government is not only undemocratic but also inhuman," the party said in a press release.

Referring to a recent television sting operation, the party alleged the SP government first "fanned" communal riots by encouraging a particular community and ignoring law and order and is now "following a policy of appeasement" when it comes to expressing sympathies with the riot victims.

"It has become clear now that there was collusion and conspiracy by both Congress and SP behind the Muzaffarnagar riots. Akhilesh Yadav did not stop Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi from visiting the riot-affected areas.

"The leaders of Congress and SP proved their policy of appeasement by meeting victims from only a particular community and made no efforts to feel the sufferings of thousands of riot victims," it said. The party release said a delegation of BJP leaders, will meet President Pranab Mukherjee and apprise him of the "moves of the SP government towards spoiling the commuanl atmoshpere" in the state.
