New Delhi: The reconstituted Group of Ministers (GoM) on the Bhopal gas tragedy will meet for a second round of discussions on Saturday.

The focus of Saturday's meeting will be the legal and health issues related to the tragedy.

Sources tell CNN-IBN that the GoM is expected to look at the feasibility of filing a curative petition in the Supreme Court on the trial court verdict.

The GoM will also consider reopening of the case to punish former Union Carbide CEO Warren Anderson and the other accused. It will also consider formulation of more stringent laws for such cases in the future with emphasis on rehabilitation of victims.

On Friday, the GoM met for the first time since its constitution.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said on Friday that the GoM discussed its course of action in the meeting.

"The mandate is to look at relief, rehabilitation, remediation and all options that are available to the government after June 7 judgement of the trial court," said Chidambaram.

Chidambaram also said that by Monday the GoM will be able to finalize all the recommendations.

The Group of Ministers, which was earlier headed by former HRD minister Arjun Singh, was reconstituted by the United Progressive Alliance government on June 9. Besides P Chidambaram, who heads the group, it includes Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Law Minister Veerappa Moily, Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy, Transport Minister Kamal Nath, Chemicals Minister MK Alagiri, Tourism Minister Kumari Selja, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh and MoS in Prime Minister’s Office Prithviraj Chavan.

The GoM has been asked to examine all issues relating to the Bhopal gas tragedy and recommend the government on relief and rehabilitation measures.
