Kottayam: The unexpected entry of firebrand SFI leader Sindhu Joy as a comrade-in-arms for the Congress has made the LDF camp jittery. Her decision to quit the CPM and resign the post of national Vice President of the SFI on Thursday came as a shot in the arm of the Congress and the UDF, which had been hit by squabbles over seat allocation and rebellion by aspirants.

Sindhu has selected Puthuppally itself, where she had unsuccessfully contested against Oommen Chandy as an LDF candidate in the 2006 polls, to rework her political fortunes. She addressed the campaign convention of Chandy at Pampady, giving a big boost to the Opposition Leader, and got formally admitted to the Congress. Sindhu had arrived for poll campaign in Puthuppally in 2006 limping on her crutches, catching Chandy and supporters unawares. She had suffered severe injuries in a counterattack by the police with grenades amid an SFIled stir in the state capital. However, the electorate rejected her appeals and Chandy won with a convincing margin. Sindhu parted ways with the CPM because of total neglect by the party in recent ears.

But how the Congress will accommodate her and take advantage of her presence remains to be seen. She is not an Abdullakutty, but can give sleepless nights to many in the CPM.

What's your reaction?
