At the peak of Samajwadi Party (SP) victory celebrations, there was one man who was ruing his luck. He thought he was the one who was the "Sutradhar" for SP victory, but he was being left out in the cold.
That man was Akhilesh Yadav's Chacha. Shivpal Yadav!! Just before you start thinking that this was a typical family rivalry brewing, let me tell you a bit about Shivpal himself.
Over the years, I have spent a lot of time with Akhilesh. Often, when I have visited him at his house in Lucknow, the one man sitting comfortably in CM house has been Shivpal Yadav. Even today, Akhilesh's kids and his wife spend a lot of time with Chacha Shivpal Yadav. The two of them even have a common boundary wall. Then why this rivalry?
Amar Singh, business deals and in some parts ego. It's no secret that Akhilesh Yadav was always opposed to Amar Singh's reentry in Samajwadi Party. But when Amar Singh started to go back to his wicked ways of creating his mini empire within SP, it was becoming too much for Akhilesh to handle.
To make matters worse, Shivpal Yadav teamed up with Amar Singh to tell Akhilesh that in an election year, Akhilesh couldn't be the party boss. It meant that Uncle Shivpal would decide on party tickets.
It also implied that corporate entities looking to cut lucrative financial deals in UP would have to go through Shivpal and not Akhilesh. And that would ultimately lead the doors once again to Amar Singh. Simply put, a totally unacceptable scenario for Akhilesh.
Finally Akhilesh lost it, when he realised that the man who was appointed his chief secretary was taking orders from Amar Singh.
Deepak Singhal was removed the day after a posh party was thrown by Amar Singh in honour of Zee boss Subhash Chandra who made it to the Rajya Sabha in rather controversial circumstances. Singhal was given the marching orders while he was on way to greater Noida to sign a corporate deal without the consent of Akhilesh. What followed is history. Round of sacking and counter sacking from camps of Akhilesh and Mulayam.
So while the present war is a result of personal ambitions, it's also a result of corporate links criss-crossing various SP camps.
