New Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday attacked the Congress party by accusing the previous UPA government of "flip flop" in Ishrat Jahan case.
Addressing the Lok Sabha, the Home Minister claimed that while the first affidavit in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case had mentioned her as an LeT terrorist, an additional affidavit was filed altering the facts.
Rajnath Singh said that the UPA government indulged in flip flop to target then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
"David Headley's statement to a Mumbai court on Ishrat's links to LeT confirmed the first affidavit filed by the UPA government," said Rajnath Singh.
"It was a deep conspiracy to defame then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi and his government through a probe into the Ishrat case...there was an attempt of the erstwhile UPA government to dilute the fact that Ishrat was an LeT operative, he added.
He also alleged that some documents, including two letters by then home secretary, had gone missing, adding that the Ministry of Home Affairs would conduct a probe into circumstances of filing of the second affidavit.
