New Delhi: Apple's 'Spring Forward' event, scheduled for March 9, is just a few hours away and among the list of likely announcements, details about the Apple Watch's pricing and availability are expected to be made public.
Apple Watch is by far the most anticipated device to be rolled out by the tech giant. What makes it the highlight of the event is that it will be the first new product to come from Apple after the legendary co-founder Steve Jobs.
The company could unveil the smartwatch's price and availability at the event. Although it is known that the Apple Watch lineup will start at $349, but there is no hint dropped by the tech giant about its headturner 18-k gold edition Apple Watch, which the rumour mill predicts could be priced up to some thousand dollars.
Details about its consumer rollout, feature additions or software tweaks, if any, could also be announced at the event. It is known that the Apple Watch will include Power Reserve mode, storage capacity, Heart Rate Glance, and more. However, these are the only details made public. With reports stating that Apple has asked developers to not share app announcements, there is a possibility that some third-party apps could find their way into the smartwatch.
A report in 9to5Mac stated that Apple planned to sell its own straps separately alongside the Apple Watch. So one could expect 'smart straps,' based on the platform recently announced by Pebble that includes sensors on the strap to make the watch a product in itself and not just a smartphone accessory. Something similar could be expected to from Apple.
The watch could possibly run the latest iOS 8.2, which is due for a full-release in the coming week, and since the compatible iPhone for the watch would require an updated OS for full-functionality, the tech giant could also make public its latest software update before the watch goes on sale.
The Apple Watch could feature apps like the Apple pay-mobile payment feature and the Companion app- for managing the watch settings via the iPhone.
Other speculations surrounding the Spring Forward event include a possible launch of the 12-inch MacBook Air 2015, which will include improved Intel Broadwell CPUs, graphics, and battery life. Reports also indicate that Apple may also update the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Broadwell CPUs at the same time. It is further expected that Apple's thinner 12-inch MacBook Air could also debut at the event.
Apart from the tech speculations, the rumour mill is also abuzz with rock band, Muse, performing at the event. Apple is known to rope in big names for gigs at its events. Last year, U2 was a bit hit at the event.
