Last year, reports hinted that Apple could be working on a dedicated capture button for the iPhone 16 Pro models. Now, more leaks originating from Weibo corroborate the prior released information, and reveal even more about the purported Capture Button.
As spotted by MacRumors, the Weibo user says that Apple could be working on a two-step shutter button to mimic the functionality of a real DSLR or mirrorless camera.
The user, ‘Instant Digital,’ says that a single press would trigger the shutter to capture a photo or start video recording, but when you half-press, it will allow you to set the focus—akin to how a “real” camera’s shutter button works. Simply put, you first half-press to focus, and then press all the way to capture the shot.
Notable sources, including Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, have paid heed to the presence of the said button, and now more rumours only paint an even stronger narrative for the feature to make its way to the iPhone 16 Pro.
Last month, The Information, based on two sources familiar with the development of the iPhone 16 series, published similar reporting that Apple’s iPhone 16 capture button may serve multiple purposes. This includes being touch-sensitive, allowing users to zoom, and perhaps even half-press the button to focus their shot.
This means there is definitely some substance to this rumor. However, we are still months away from the official launch of these phones, and there’s plenty of time before Apple finalises the design and starts mass production of the models. Therefore, the plans may always change.
