OnePlus aims to replace Cyanogen with its own OxygenOS
Owing to strained relationship with Cyanogen, OnePlus is likely to make its home-developed OxygenOS as the default software in future devices.

New Delhi: After a few snags, OnePlus' in-house version of the Android OS is here. The OxygenOS is a modest refresh of Google's latest Android 5.0 Lollipop and is intended to replace the customised version by Cyanogen.

The Chinese smartphone maker came out with its OnePlus One device that was aimed to take head on Samsung and HTC phones at half the price and ran the customised Android OS version by Cyanogen. Now, the company aims to replace that with its own OxygenOS which is available for download to the users.

A report in The Verge, OnePlus took a back to basics approach with OxygenOS and prioritised performance and battery life over gimmicks and bloated features.

The new software doesn't imbibe in it drastic changes but simple yet visible tweaks like gesture shortcuts which can be executed when the screen is off, an expanded settings menu, a file explorer, and a couple of advanced options.

Owing to the strained relationship between OnePlus and Cyanogen, in which the latter signed an exclusive deal with Micromax just before OnePlus' planned launch in the subcontinent, there is every likelihood that the OxygenOS will eventually become the default OS running in OnePlus devices. For now, users can download it over Cyanogen using the instructions on OnePlus' website.
