WhatsApp reportedly starts rolling out voice calling feature
If reports are to be believed, the voice calling feature is included in WhatsApp's 2.11.508 version, which has not yet made its way to Google's Play Store.

New Delhi: It seems that WhatsApp has started to roll out its much-awaited voice calling feature to users. While there is no official word on the availability of the free voice calling feature on WhatsApp from the company, reports are doing the rounds claiming that a Reddit user pradnesh07 found the calling feature activated on his WhatsApp.

The post on Reddit, however, appears to have been removed - but not before screenshots hit the Web.

If reports are to be believed, the voice calling feature is included in WhatsApp's 2.11.508 version, which has not yet made its way to Google's Play Store. The upgraded version, however, can be downloaded and installed on your phone from the company's website.

The downside here is that the calling feature, which is claimed to be restricted to Android only, does not immediately become available to users as the latest version of WhatsApp is installed.

The Reddit user, who used voice calling on WhatsAppp on its Android 5.0.1 Lollipop running Nexus 5, is said to have claimed that users even with the latest version of the app installed on the phone will not be able to use the voice calling feature until they receive a call from someone who already has the feature activated on his phone, hinting at an invite-based rollout.

Patil also posted a video (below) giving a quick overview of the calling feature on Whatsapp on his YouTube channel. The video shows that the new interface maintains a log of recent WhatsApp calls.

Given the limited rollout of voice calling on WhatsApp, the feature appears to be yet in testing. WhatsApp is yet to announce the feature officially.
