With the arrival of the monsoon season in India, the craving for hot, spicy pakodas (fritters) becomes irresistible. As the rain pours outside, there’s nothing quite like indulging in these savoury delights made from potatoes, onions, chilies, and a variety of other vegetables. However, the latest trend in weirdculinary experiments has brought fruit-based pakodas into the limelight. Recently, a video showcasing banana fritters went viral, leaving foodies appalled.
The video, shared by @crispyfoodstation, begins with two individuals embarking on a bizarre banana fritter-making process. To the shock of many, they start by placing an entire bunch of bananas, still joined at the stem and with peels intact, into a vessel of hot oil.

Only the lower bananas are submerged, while one person ladles hot oil over the upper bananas. Once the bananas are partially fried, they are separated, peeled, flattened using plastic, and coated in a special batter before being deep-fried to a golden crisp. The video concludes with the duo tasting their unconventional creation.

Unsurprisingly, the video sparked a wave of disgust among food lovers. Comments flooded in, with many expressing their dismay at the transformation of a healthy fruit into a greasy snack. Criticism ranged from concerns about the double-frying method to potential health risks. One user remarked, “How to turn a healthy meal into a heart attack,” while another added, “Well…. that’s another way to ruin a perfectly good fruit.”
A third commenter questioned, “What the hell is the sense of frying them with the peels on?” and a fourth chimed in, “The first step is so unnecessary.”
