Wildlife videos have always been fascinating and spine-chilling, and they are quite hard to miss on the internet. Be it the predators stealthily hunting their prey or the rare view of male moose shedding their antlers in their territory, animal videos always offer respite from a real-world bleakness. However, amidst the thrilling and engaging content, there is a new attraction in town that has created a buzz on the internet. Recently, US-based photographer Chris Henry posted a clip on his Instagram handle that featured a Bison shedding a tear.
Sharing the clip, Henry stated that he captured this scene in Northern Utah during the winters in 2022. The now-viral clip unfolds to show the bison standing alone in a wide space on a visibly chilly and breezy day. As the video progressed, the animal closed its eyes, and a tear rolled down its eyes.

It goes without saying that this rare sight has left social media users dumbfounded. Since being shared, the clip has been circulated across social media platforms, triggering an influx of reactions from internet users. Some praised the shutterbug’s incredible skills, while others expressed grief, claiming that the bison was crying over the destruction that humans have done to their natural world. Till now, the video has gone immensely viral, mustering over over 2 million views in just three days. Needless to say, the views are still increasing.
An Instagram user commented, “Even the strongest have weak moments.”
Expressing the fact that the bison was weeping over the destruction humans have caused to nature, a user wrote, “Humans have made hell on this planet for animals.”
“Look at what they have done to my earth,” read another comment on the post.
After watching the beast shed tears, an individual said, “This is enough to make me cry.”
“God created beautiful things, on the other hand, we are destroying them,” mentioned an Instagram user.
Praising the photographer’s skill to capture such an incredible moment, an account remarked, “Legend music and legend shooting.”
Bison, like many other animals, have physiological processes to keep their eyes moist and they can display a range of emotions, including stress, fear, and even grief. They produce tears that fulfill the typical role of tear production in animals like eye lubrication, eliminating irritants, and preventing infections. However, it is important to distinguish between crying and these spontaneous physiological reactions, which may indicate emotional distress or sadness. More research is needed to fully understand the functions behind bison tears.
