Data from MyGovIndia reveals that the global search interest in the islands has now reached its highest point in the last two decades. While the official data indicates a global surge in searches for the Lakshadweep Islands, there is also a reported increase in interest from travel platforms and tour operators.
Online travel aggregator MakeMyTrip, for instance, has reported an astonishing 3400% increase in on-platform searches specifically for Lakshadweep. This surge in interest suggests a heightened curiosity and desire among travellers to explore this picturesque destination.
In a post shared on January 8, the travel platform said, “We have observed a 3400% increase in on-platform searches for Lakshadweep ever since the Honorable PM’s visit.”
They further mentioned, “This interest in Indian beaches has inspired us to launch a ‘Beaches of India’ campaign on the platform with offers and discounts to encourage Indian travellers to explore the country’s stunning beaches.”

On his visit to Lakshadweep, PM Modi attempted snorkelling and called it an “exhilarating” experience. He shared pictures of his attempt at the activity and recommended adventure enthusiasts to consider adding Lakshadweep to their bucket list.
“For those who wish to embrace the adventurer in them, Lakshadweep has to be on your list. During my stay, I also tried snorkelling – what an exhilarating experience it was!” he wrote on X along with the pictures of him wearing a snorkel mask and a life vest.

During his 2-day visit to the archipelago, PM Modi also inaugurated the Kochi-Lakshadweep Islands Submarine Optical Fibre Connection. He also went on to lay the foundation stone for the renovation of the primary healthcare facility in the area.
