Chennai-based Devaraj, accidentally threw a diamond necklace worth Rs 5 lakh into the common municipal garbage bin. The necklace was not only worth a lot, but also a cherished wedding gift from his mother to his daughter for her upcoming ceremony. As soon as he realised his mistake, Devaraj immediately alerted the authorities.

A search operation was initiated quickly. It was led by J. Anthonysamy, a driver with Urbaser Sumeet, the waste management company contracted by the Chennai Corporation. Senior officials also oversaw the recovery effort, reported India Today. After an exhaustive search, the necklace was eventually found entangled in a garland inside a waste bin. It was then retrieved and safely returned to its owner.

Devaraj expressed his gratitude to Anthonysamy, and the entire garbage collection crew for their prompt response and hard work in retrieving the valuable necklace. While Devaraj’s story seems pretty rare, he isn’t the only one who got lucky with wealth.

In another fascinating incident that took place last month, a man drilling through a piece of rock found several gold coins inside. While the authenticity of the video couldn’t be verified, it had gone viral.

The video showed the man drilling on what appeared to be mountainous ground. After some drilling, he used a metal detector, which alerted him to something in the hole. Clearing out the soil, he recovered a coin from inside the rock. Though the coin lacked the typical shine of gold, the video’s caption claimed it was indeed a gold coin.
