As per a recent study, it was revealed that aliens are watching us with their ultra-advanced telescopes from light years away, but not in real-time. The study found out that the reason why aliens will be seeing the current events after millennials is because it will take the light to travel at least 3,000 years to reach them. The study is peer-reviewed and has been published in the March 2024 edition of Acta Astronautica titled Are We Visible To Advanced Alien Civilisations? As per the author of the study ZN Osmanov, a Research Affiliate at the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Institute, found that the maximum distance from which our blue planet will be visible to them is 3,000 light-years as per the laws of physics.

To be visible from such a far-away distance, they would need highly advanced and huge telescopes to snoop in on us and study us. However, the ultimate aim of the study was to determine our detectability. The study also divided the alien civilisations based on their technological capabilities. The classification is based on the aliens’ ability to harness energy from the local stars. Type 1 consumes all energy from its star, Type 2 will be able to utilise the energy of the star and Type 3 is an advanced society that can harness the energy of the entire galaxy. The study aims to find out if the aliens’ advanced telescope can see the artefacts on Earth and if we are detectable through those.
