UK Woman Stunned To Find She Has A Seven Years Older Twin Brother
In addition to locating her egg donor, the 26-year-old woman learned that her donor has a half-brother and a genetic twin.

A woman has located her genetic mother, who donated her embryo thirty years ago and has been reunited with her long-lost twin. Isabel Paterson learned that her genetic parents, Colin Tortoise and Marie Flatekval, had frozen six eggs and implanted three. After undergoing infertility therapy, Isabel was born after Marie gave an extra embryo to a childless couple.

In addition to locating her egg donor, the 26-year-old from Wilmslow, Cheshire in England learned that her donor has a half-brother named Omar and a “genetic twin” named Colin, who was born seven years earlier.

Isabel and Colin are categorised as twins even though they were born at different times since they shared the same batch of embryos. The family is currently being highlighted in Born From The Same Stranger, a four-part ITV series. Speaking on the programme, narrated by Davina McCall, Isabel said, “‘It’s such a strange feeling… it’s better than I imagined.”

In addition, Tom, Isabel’s 31-year-old brother, whom she is not genetically connected to, speaks with the show about growing up in a “close-knit” family with their mother Sarah. Tom, who was created through a double donation of egg and sperm, was able to locate the person who donated the sperm, a college student looking to supplement his income.

Colin, Isabel’s biological father, tragically died in 2001. But after Marie wrote her a letter introducing herself, she was able to locate her in Norway. She was nervous and took a while to decide whether or not to contact them, but she told herself that she would accept their choice if they chose not to get to know her.

In the episode, Marie discovers she has a daughter who is separated from her. She describes this feeling deeply, saying, “We chose to donate and we forgot about them. It is an amazing, huge surprise.”

Isabel rushes up to give Marie, who is in shock at meeting her daughter in person, a firm hug during the heartbreaking encounter. “I don’t think anyone ever looked for me before,” Marie remarked. It’s incredible. It resembles a priceless treasure that you have found again after a protracted absence.” Colin, her twin and one of the first embryos to be implanted, later joins them. His embryo had been frozen, thus he was born seven years before Isabel, who is now thirty-two years old.
