US Inmate Orders Leftover Food From Jail Canteen As His Last Wish Before Execution
Michael Dewayne Smith was an ex-gang member who was convicted on the charge of double murder.

In movies, we have seen several times that when a prisoner is convicted of the death penalty, they are often given a chance to express their last wish. The inmates are often allowed to choose their favourite meal as their last meal before they die. Generally, it is very common for the inmates to order luxurious foods and beverages as their last wish. Something unusual happened in a US jail as the police were left dumbstruck after hearing the last wish of the inmate.

According to a report from the Daily Star, Michael Dewayne Smith of the USA was an ex-gang member who was convicted on the charge of double murder. He shot two women in 2002. The report also stated that he was under the influence of drugs when he committed the crime.

The 41-year-old inmate was reportedly in prison for 20 long years before he was injected with a lethal injection on April 4 at 10:20 am local time. During his arrest, he claimed that he was innocent and was not aware of what was happening to him.

On the night before his death, he was given a choice and a chance to have his favourite dishes for dinner. Michael had to have jail food for 20 long years and was given the last chance to order his last meal. Prisoners sentenced to death in the Oklahoma jail are always given this offer to order their favourite delicacies one night before the sentence is to be carried out. They can order any dish like chicken, mutton, or pizza and the jail administration fulfills the wish of the death-sentenced prisoner. Something unusual happened in the case of Michael.

When he was asked to choose his favourite he said that he had some unfinished food in the canteen and he wanted to finish it. It can be said that Michael decided to eat the stale leftover food of that morning which left the officers on duty surprised. When Michael was asked to say something he just said, “No, I’m fine like this.” In an interview to a newspaper on April 1 he said that he did not want to die for a crime which he hadn’t done.
