When people need an extra shot of energy or want to pull an all-nighter before an exam, they reach out for an extra strong cup of coffee. Many people routinely depend on black coffee to stay alert, now a video is going viral that shows a man drinking coffee straight from the coffee jar. In the video, he opens a brand-new coffee jar and pours some hot water into it. He mixes it with a spoon, as the concoction turns into a dark paste and takes a sip. The man describes this preparation as making the ‘world’s strongest coffee’. It is unlikely that the man drank the whole jar but the suggestion itself was enough to trigger a slew of reactions.

This video has gathered over 2.5 lakh likes since it was posted on Instagram on February 13. In the comments, many people equated this strong coffee with hard drugs. An Instagram user commented, “People who say Peruvian coke is bad haven’t tried this yet.” Another person wrote, “I would say taking cocaine is much more safe than drinking this.”
People also highlighted the harms of being over-caffeinated. An Instagram user wrote, “Either bro will never sleep, or he will sleep for the rest of his life.” Another person wrote, “It’s giving cardiac distress. Heart palpitations. Irregular heartbeat.” Someone described the video as, an “Accurate representation of Students one night before an exam.”
Despite improving concentration and being rich in antioxidants, drinking too much coffee can be harmful to health.
Shannon Kilgore, a neurologist at the Veterans Affairs Health Care System in Palo Alto, spoke to the American Medical Association about the potentially harmful effects of caffeine and said, “Even in moderate amounts caffeine can cause jitteriness and anxiety. Caffeine can also increase respiratory rate, heart rate and blood pressure, which is most often fine in normal people, but if they have a light health condition it should be under consideration.”
She added, “The most common concern about coffee is that it has a withdrawal syndrome. When this occurs, people feel like they need to keep using it, even if they don’t need it that particular day for its intended benefit of increasing alertness; and that withdrawal effect can happen as soon as 12 hours after the last coffee in people who use it regularly.”
As per the United States Food and Drug Administration, a healthy adult can drink 400 milligrams (mg) of caffeine per day, which is about four or five cups of coffee.
