Woman Argues With Co-Passenger Over Seat Reclining On 10-Hour Flight, Internet Divided
A TikTok user asked her followers what she should do after the people sitting behind her on a flight asked her not to recline her seat for her 10-hour flight.

Reclining your seat on a long-haul flight is a common practice, but it can also be a source of tension between passengers as it limits the legroom for the person behind you. Sharing a similar experience, a traveller elicited an online debate after her revelation that she argued with a fellow passenger behind her over reclining her seat, reported The Independent.

A TikTok user and a travel content creator, Taylor Futch, took to social media on February 16 to ask her followers what she should do after the people sitting behind her on a flight asked her not to recline her seat for her 10-hour flight. The TikTok user shared a close-up video of her face with an on-screen caption that read, “Y’all, this girl just shoved my seat forward and said I am not allowed to recline for my 10-hour flight because it’s too much for her. What should I do? What would you do?”

Following a dispute, the fellow passenger then allegedly called the flight attendant over, who told Ms. Futch that she may recline her seat, but she would need to put it up for ‘food service’ to which Taylor said she “always did that”, reported The Independent. However, the woman behind her allegedly continued inching her seat forward the whole flight, while Ms. Futch kept moving it back into a reclined position.

The TikTok video went crazy viral, garnering over 1.2 million views and over 5,000 comments from followers. Social media users were left divided on the matter after watching the clip. Many of them came to her defence and expressed that if she paid for a seat that reclines, she was more than justified in her decision to recline her seat. Others called her ‘rude’ for not being respectful to the passenger behind her.

Defending the user, a person said, “You all are insane… If I paid for a seat that reclines, imma recline it!!! And if the person behind you reclines theirs also… they have the same amount of room.”

“Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. I wouldn’t like it if someone did it to me, so I don’t do it to them. Been on loads of long flights and have never even considered reclining,” wrote another.

Others viewers wondered what the debate was about, as they find it normal for people to recline their seats during long flights, with one commenting, “Idk what everyone else is on about. Every long-haul flight I have been on, literally everyone reclines. People only sit up when food comes.”

“If you want to recline, pay extra for the seats with extra leg room, it’s so rude to the person behind you when people recline in regular seats,” posted another.

An account remarked, “If someone reclines on me, I can’t open the tray or reach my bag. Flying economy is difficult enough without someone pressing their seat into your face.”

“You deserve to be comfortable. Recline or don’t recline; it’s up to the seat holder. My comfort is MY COMFORT,” an individual added.

A user expressed, “The chairs barely recline to begin with. I don’t see why people get so mad. I’ve never cared when the person in front of me reclines!”

The TikTok user explained the entire situation in a follow-up video. As per Taylor Futch, when she initially reclined her seat, and the girl behind her shoved it back towards her.

“Her mom was like she is uncomfortable, it’s too small for her. Then, they were like throwing a fit,” Taylor claimed.
