Electronics manufacturer Jabil is set to establish a new plant in Tamil Nadu with an investment of approximately Rs 20 billion ($238.2 million), the state’s industries minister announced on Tuesday.

US-based Jabil, a supplier for Apple, is set to establish a manufacturing plant near Tiruchirapalli after signing an agreement in Chicago. Tamil Nadu Minister T R B Rajaa shared on social media platform X that the project is expected to create approximately 5,000 jobs.

This expansion aligns with Apple’s broader strategy to deepen its focus on India. As Apple looks to diversify beyond China, its suppliers, including Jabil, are playing a key role in strengthening the company’s footprint in the Indian market.

“India is emerging as a key manufacturing hub,” Reuters quoted Matt Crowley, executive vice president for global business units at Jabil, as saying.

“Our expansion in India will enable Jabil to meet and grow with the future needs of our customers and complement our existing facility in Pune,” he added.

Tamil Nadu has signed a Rs 6.66 billion agreement with Rockwell Automation to expand the company’s manufacturing operations in the state, according to Chief Minister M K Stalin. Additionally, an agreement of undisclosed value has been signed with Autodesk.

With Jabil’s entry into manufacturing in Tamil Nadu, the state now hosts several major Apple suppliers, including Foxconn, Pegatron, Tata Electronics, and Corning.

Jabil, which also supplies companies like Cisco and HP, has made one of the first significant investments in Trichy, aiming to develop a new electronics cluster similar to those in Sriperumbudur and Hosur, spurred by Tata Electronics’ presence.
