Mumbai: Sensex closed at 20,666.15, down 156.62 points on Friday.
The BSE benchmark Sensex extended losses for the fourth straight session by declining over 54 points on sustained selling by funds amid a weak trend at other Asian bourses.
The 30-share index, which had lost over 417 points in the previous three sessions, fell further by 54.32 points, or 0.26 per cent, to 20,768.45. Consumer durable, auto and oil and gas sector stocks led the fall.
Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved down by 15.85 points, or 0.27 per cent, to 6,170.40. Brokers said sustained selling by funds amid a weak trend at other Asian bourses mainly influenced the sentiment.
In the Asian region, Japan's Nikkei Index fell by 1.42 per cent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was down by 0.73 per cent in early trade. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.97 per cent lower in yesterday's trade.
