IIT Delhi, University of Queensland Begins Application For Joint PhD Programme
Candidates with a background in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, healthcare, humanities, or social sciences can apply for the joint PhD admissions

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi along with the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia have launched a joint PhD programme through the UQ-IIT Delhi Research Academy (UQIDAR) at IIT Delhi.

The application process for admissions to the joint PhD programme in January 2025 has commenced on the official websites at uqiitd.org or home.iitd.ac.in. Candidates with a background in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, healthcare, humanities, or social sciences can apply for the joint PhD admissions. The application process for the UQ-IITD Joint PhD programme is open until October 3, 2024.

Students will be able to attend classes in both the institutions. They will receive a jointly awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from both universities upon successful completion of the programme. “You will study in both Australia and India as a part of your degree. On the successful completion of the programme, you will be offered a jointly awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from both UQ and IITD,” reads the official notice.

“UQIDAR supports its students with generous fellowships, research travel grants, and relocation. The students will have access to both institutions’ academic facilities and resources,” the notice added.

Furthermore, candidature should be for a maximum of four years, depending on students’ progress. Indian and international students will spend three years in India and a minimum of one year in Australia while Australian students will spend three years in Australia and one year in India.

Interested students may attend an information session to learn more about the UQ–IITD joint PhD programme. According to IIT Delhi, the session will provide attendees with information about the PhD programme, scholarships, and how to apply. Current students will also be sharing their experiences and presenters will be on hand to answer any questions. The information session will take place on Wednesday, September 25 at 10:30 am and 3 pm.
