IRS Rahul Navin Appointed Full-time Director Of Enforcement Directorate
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah as a member, approved the appointment.

On August 14, the Centre appointed Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Rahul Navin, the acting Enforcement Directorate (ED), as the full-time director of the financial crimes probe agency, ED, for two years. He is an IRS officer of the 1993 batch of the Income Tax cadre. The officer was already the interim in charge since last September when the former director, Sanjay Kumar Mishra, completed his tenure.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi with Union Home Minister, Amit Shah as a member, approved the appointment of Rahul Navin, IRS Special Director, ED, as Director of Enforcement for two years. An order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) stated that he has been appointed to the post for two years “from the date of assumption of charge of the post” or “until further orders”, whichever is earlier.

57-year-old IRS Rahul Navin hails from Bihar. He joined the ED in November 2019. Before joining the ED, he also held the title of Chief Vigilance Officer. During his tenure in ED as the acting chief since last September, the agency made several high-profile arrests under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). It also included the cases of Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh, BRS Leader- K Kavitha, regarding excise policy-related money laundering and the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren in an alleged land-grabbing case.

In 2017, IRS Rahul Navin was appointed as the Commissioner of Income Tax. In 2019, he was posted as an Officer on Special Duty in ED. And later in November 2020, he was appointed as Special Director of ED. Apart from these titles, he has also held the posts of Additional Director and Course Director.

Rahul Navin was appointed as the interim chief of ED in September last year after the Supreme Court stopped the extension of service of Sanjay Kumar Mishra as the head of the Central Agency for one year each time as illegal.
