King REACTS To Vicky Kaushal Making Punjabi Songs Go Viral: 'It's A Fantastic Trend' | Exclusive
Punjabi rapper King released his new album titled New Life. The artist sat down for a candid chat with News18 Showsha.

After he took over our slow car drives playlist with ‘Tu Aake Dekhle’, the King is making a royal return with a new album titled New Life. The album was released recently and it has already dominated our playlist. While we soak in the new music he has dropped, King took over the Apple Store recently as part of the ‘Today at Apple’ initiative and performed a few tracks from the album. The intimate jam session was a night to remember!

Shortly after the session, King opened up about performing at the store, his new album and the Punjabi music scene in India in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha. Not only did he get candid about his album but also spoke about Vicky Kaushal’s role in popularising Indie Punjabi artists among non-Punjabi music listeners. Check out the excerpt from the chat below:

Performing an open-air concert vs performing at the Apple store, what was more difficult?

Performing an open-air concert and a performance at the Apple store each present its own unique set of challenges. The Apple store performance required a more intimate and focused interaction with the audience.

Ankur Tiwari recently praised Apple for their at-store concert concept and even said that India needs more such spaces for musicians to have an intimate music experience. Do you also believe in intimate jamming sessions or prefer a grand stage?

I wholeheartedly agree with Ankur Tiwari’s sentiment. Intimate jamming sessions and grand stages each have their own charm. While grand stages allow for a larger-than-life spectacle, intimate sessions provide a personal and up-close connection with the audience. As an artist, I cherish both settings and believe that a mix of both is essential to create a well-rounded experience for the people.

This was the first time you performed your new album live, tell us a little about the inspiration behind the album.

The concept behind the album was to capture the essence of growth. It’s about embracing change, facing challenges, and coming out stronger.

New Life is unlike the songs you’ve recently been famous for. Did you have any apprehensions when you decided to experiment with the theme of the album?

Experimenting with the theme of “New Life” did come with its fair share of apprehensions. It’s always a risk to step outside one’s comfort zone, but I believe that pushing artistic boundaries and exploring new dimensions of music is essential for growth as an artist. The album represents a different side of my creativity, and I’m proud of the outcome.

Which is your favourite song from the album? And which one was the hardest to record?

It’s challenging to pick a favourite from the album as each song holds a special place in my heart.

While Punjabi music has always played a vital role in Bollywood, lately, indie Punjabi musicians are getting their due as solo performers. What do you think has propelled the rise of — Punjabi artists in mainstream music scenes?

The rise of Punjabi artists as solo performers in mainstream music is undoubtedly a testament to their incredible talent and the universal appeal of Punjabi music. These artists bring a unique flavour to the music scene, and their authenticity and relatable stories have struck a chord with audiences worldwide. Platforms like Apple Music have played a significant role in supporting the growth of Punjabi artists by providing them with a global stage to showcase their music. The reach and accessibility that streaming platforms offer have allowed Punjabi artists to connect with a diverse audience and gain recognition beyond borders.

Vicky Kaushal also seems to have played a role in introducing some Punjabi gems to non-Punjabi speaking audiences. What is your take on that?

Vicky Kaushal has indeed contributed to introducing Punjabi gems to non-Punjabi speaking audiences. It’s a fantastic trend that showcases the power of music in transcending language barriers.
