Stree 2's Rajkummar Rao Admits He Did Films For 'A Particular Person': 'These Are My Mistakes...' | Exclusive
Amid the massive success of Stree 2, Rajkummar Rao recalled a time when he didn't have enough work and signed films for emotional reasons.

Actor Rajkummar Rao’s performance in Stree proved to be a breakthrough in his career. Nearly seven years later, Rajkummar returned as Vicky in Stree 2 this month. Stree 2 has proved to be a juggernaut at the box office and has surpassed the Rs 500 crore mark at the global box office. This has cemented Rajkummar’s footing in Hindi cinema.

While Rajkummar is enjoying the horror-comedy’s success, he exclusively spoke to News18 Showsha and recalled a time when he’d sign films because he did not have enough work.  He said, “Maybe for emotional reasons, I’ve done a film or for a particular person. But that has also taught me not to do anything for anyone but yourself. Listen to your heart because your heart will always tell you the right thing. Do not give your patent to someone else. You drive your career in a way that you can look back and say, ‘At least these are my mistakes and these are my successes.'”

However, Rajkummar mentioned this has not been the case ‘for a while now’. The actor said he has reached a position where he can refuse projects. “If I don’t want to do something, I can now say no. With due respect, I can say no to a person or a project,” he stated.

Rajkummar Rao made his acting debut in the 2010 film, Love Sex Aur Dhokha. In the nearly 15 years since then, he has collaborated with renowned directors like Amar Kaushik (Stree franchise), Anurag Kashyap (Gangs of Wasseypur 2), Hansal Mehta (Shahid, City Lights, Aligarh), Abhishek Kapoor (Kai Po Che), Vikas Bahl (Queen) and Anurag Basu (Ludo) among others. When asked if these collaborations were because of luck or his acting chops, Rajkummar said, “I think it’s an amalgamation of everything.”

“Filmmaking is a director’s medium. The film is as good as your director. You can work on your performance and you can really push it, people might appreciate it also. But if the film is not good then that’s not a good feeling. No actor would say that that would like to come out of a film and people said, ‘You were really good but I didn’t like the film.’ That’s the worst statement any actor could get. I want my films also to be loved as much as my work,” Rajkumar concluded.

After the massive success of Stree 2, Rajkummar Rao will be seen in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video with Triptii Dimri.
