Dressing Like Pippi Longstocking
Prepare your hair. Pippi was known for her hair that was the same colour of a carrot. She typically wore them in two tight braids, which stuck out. If you have ginger hair already, wear them in two braids. If your hair isn't ginger in colour, that's alright. You can use a temporary dye if you want to go for the full Pippi, but it's okay if you don't. To make your hair stick out, use hairspray.
Wear Pippi's clothing. Pippi had a very eclectic sense of fashion. Her typical attire was a blue dress with several red patches, she wore a pair of long stockings, one which was black, and the other brown, and black shoes which were twice as long as her feet. For the blue dress, buy a simple blue dress, cut out several pieces and stitch in red material in the holes. Buy one brown long stocking and one black long stocking. If you don't have stockings, try find knee-length socks in the colours. As for the shoes, buy black shoes (preferably with pointed ends and buckles) which are twice the length of your feet.
Get Pippi's freckles. Pippi had plenty of freckles, all across her face. To get this look, use a freckle pen (available in online stores such as Amazon). Pippi had plenty of freckles on her nose and slightly below her cheekbones.
Get Pippi's fancy look. For fancy occasions, Pippi would let her hair down and colour her lips and nails red using a crayon. She would also use a black crayon on her eyebrows. To achieve the lion's mane style like Pippi does in the book, curl your hair using curling tongs, then slightly mess up your hair by shaking your head. Instead of using crayons for your eyebrows, use an eyebrow pencil (004 Black Brown). For your lips, use bright red lipstick, but slightly smudge over your lips. Lastly, for your nails, use bright red polish, but do not add gloss!, and slightly go over the lines.
Get Pippi's pet. Pippi always has her pet squirrel monkey, Mr Nilsson. He wears blue trousers, a yellow jacket and a white straw hat. You can purchase a monkey in all toy stores. Preferably, he should be able to "sit" on your shoulder and should have long arms and legs. If you can't find toy attire like Mr Nilsson's, you can get baby clothes that fit your monkey.
Acting Like Pippi Longstocking
Know Pippi's birth name. Her birth name is very long; she was not born with the name "Pippi". When you're introducing yourself to someone, use Pippi's full name, which is Pippilotta Delicatessa Windowshade Mackrelmint, Ephraim's daughter Longstocking. To memorise it, bring a paper with her name on it and recite it often during the day. Also, when you finish saying her name, add, "Pippi for short, because Dad thought that Pippilotta is too long."
Act clueless about common things, and do things that aren't seen as standard. As a result of her absent parents, Pippi acts differently than other children. She does not understand many concepts. For example, Pippi thought that a circus was actually a man named Sir Cuss. When burglars came to her house, she danced with them the polka and shared some food with them. When going out in public, wave exuberantly at random strangers. However, don't do this too often or you will get stared at. Or, you can talk about a subject that seems utterly normal but sound perfectly horrified. Here's an example dialogue: "What is 6 + 4?" "No idea." "10. Now, what is 3 + 7?" "Err, 44?" "No, don't guess, it is 10." "Good gracious, you must be going mad. You first tell me 4 + 6 is 10, now 7 + 3?"
Boast about how your parents are different from other children's parents. Pippi's mother died, and Pippi's father was a ship's captain who blew overboard in a horrendous storm and vanished. So, you can brag about your parents and their whereabouts. When people asked about your parents (like what are their jobs), reply "My mother is an angel and my father is a South Sea Island King".
Tell dramatic stories or tall tales. A signature Pippi Longstocking move is to create tall tales. Pippi has a flair for the dramatic, and she makes up tall tales and presents them as truths. To project this trait, say things that may sound like a fact, but is obnoxiously clear it's a fib (eg: You know some people in villages use their hair to stir stuff and not spoons?).
Be a good friend. Even though Pippi could be reckless and somewhat of a liar, she was kind to her friends. If anyone is bullying your friend(s), immediately put them in their proper place by defending your friends. If they start to taunt you, act sweet and nice- this will annoy them since you’re not reacting. For example, if someone says to your friend “You’re dumb”, Pippi would typically counter with, “Well, look at you!”
