X's (formerly known as Twitter) latest website redesign is drastically different from the last version. One of the most glaring differences is that the menu options that were once at the top now run along the left side of the page. If you're having trouble adjusting to the redesign and use either Firefox or Google Chrome, you can change some browser settings that bring back the X interface you know and love. This wikiHow teaches you how to install the GoodTwitter browser extension in Chrome or Firefox when you're using a computer.

Steps

Using GoodTwitter for Google Chrome

Open Google Chrome Android 7 Chrome on your computer. If you use Google Chrome, you can install an extension called GoodTwitter that brings back X/Twitter's old look. You'll usually find Firefox in the Start menu (Windows) or in the Applications folder (macOS).

Go to https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions. If you're already signed in to your Google account you'll see your Gmail address at the top-right corner of the screen. If you're not logged in, click Sign In at the top-right corner of the page to sign in now.

Type goodtwitter into the search bar and press ↵ Enter or ⏎ Return. Several search results will appear.

Click Add to Chrome next to "GoodTwitter." It should be the first option in the list.You'll see a pop-up that explains the permissions needed to run the extension. The second option "Shareable Tweets" includes the full good "GoodTwitter" plus gives you an extra Like button.

Click Add extension on the pop-up. You'll see a confirmation message at the top-right corner of the browser once the installation is complete. This also adds a white icon with a Twitter bird logo to the button bar in that area. This is the GoodTwitter extension button. The button will turn blue when you visit Twitter.com, but will stay white on other sites.

Go to https://www.twitter.com. This opens your X feed if you're logged in. You should now see the old X design in place of the redesign. If you're not signed in, click Log in to sign in now. If you don't see any changes to the website, you may have to refresh the page or clear your cache.

Using GoodTwitter for Firefox

Open Firefox on your computer. GoodTwitter is a Firefox add-on that restores the previous X/Twitter design to Twitter.com. You'll usually find Firefox in the Start menu (Windows) or in the Applications folder (macOS).

Go to https://addons.mozilla.org. This opens Firefox's database of browser add-ons.

Type goodtwitter into the "Find add-ons" box. It's at the top-right corner of the page. As you type, a list of matching search results will appear.

Click GoodTwitter in the search results. It should be the first option. Look for the blue bird icon.

Click the blue + Add to Firefox button. It's near the top-center part of the page. A pop-up message that describes the necessary permissions will appear.

Click Add on the pop-up. You'll see a confirmation message at the top-right corner of Firefox.

Choose whether to allow the extension to run in private browser windows. If you use private browsing and want to see the old X/Twitter in those windows, check the box next to "Allow this extension to run in Private Windows" on the confirmation pop-up. Otherwise, leave the box blank.

Click Okay, Got It on the confirmation pop-up. GoodTwitter is now installed and ready to use.
