MALAPPURAM:The Malappuram district committee of the CPM has approved the suspension of CPM Edakkara area committee member M K Chandran as suggested by the Edakkara area committee and has served show cause notices to others for leading protest marches supporting VS when the party had rejected him seat in the assembly elections. 14 party members at Edakkara have come under punitive action.
The move is believed to be a part of axing VS supporters in the rank and file of the cadre. Those who were served show cause notice include branch secretaries T A Vijayakumar, V K Chandrasekhar and V V Prasad.According to party sources, Edakkara area committee had issued a show cause notice to M K Chandran in July demanding explanation for organising marches in Karuvarakkundu and Edakkara areas against party decree to not field V S Achuthanandan in the elections. "The other 13 members are also expected to get suspension, at least for some months if not for a year," said a party source on Wednesday.

However, Chandran and others who came under fire have decided to appeal the decision at the district committee and party control committee.
