New Delhi: Twenty years on, there is fresh controversy over the 1993 Mumbai blasts case. Former Mumbai Police chief MN Singh has claimed that the then union home minister SC Chavan did not give permission for a police team to go to Dubai and get Dawood Ibrahim before he got refuge in Pakistan.

Talking to IBN18 Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai, Singh said, "While Dawood Ibrahim and his close associates were still in Dubai, I had offered to the then Home Minister of India that we could send a team and we would be able to do something about it because he was still in Dubai and we were advised that it will not be advisable to send your team. Of course the government of India has to be taken into confidence. Maharashtra itself could not have sent any team. But then I had offered to send a team which was not approved."

"I don't know if the government of India has ever tried but thereafter there was no question of Maharashtra police trying for it or Mumbai Police trying. We never made any attempt thereafter because we were advised not to," he added

The March 12, 1993 blasts were one of the worst attacks on the maximum city. The Mumbai blasts investigation spanned months, but the trial has dragged on for years. There's still no verdict from the Supreme Court yet.

The 1993 Mumbai blasts case investigation spanned several months leading to the arrest of 123 accused and many like underworld don Dawood Ibrahim were named as wanted accused. 20 years after one of the country's worst terror attacks, the wheels of justice are still in their final leg.
