New Delhi: Former coach of the Dutch indoor hockey team Herman Kruis will take over the reigns of the Indian women's hockey team for the Asia Cup in Hong Kong from September 1.
A statement released by the Indian Women's Hockey Federation said that Kruis has been cleared to coach the women's side for the high-profile event.
Though his appointment has been made as a temporary arrangement, it is likely that Kruis's contract could be extended depending on the team's performance.
Kruis joined the Indian team on Thursday, which is currently undergoing a training camp in Lucknow.
Kruis has impressive credentials as a coach and has successfully guided various teams in different indoor and outdoor tournaments.
Kruis is also executive director of the Johan Cryuff College for talented sportspersons. He coached the Hertogenbosch women's team since 2000 and led them to seven consecutive national titles.
He also led the Dutch national indoor hockey team to European Club Championships for seven years on the trot.
Kruis was also the chief coach of the Dutch national team that won the FIH Indoor World Cup in Vienna this year.
