THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After its move to draft the Green Building policy, the Public Works Department is now eying heritage buildings. As many as seven heritage buildings in the state and one in Tamil Nadu belonging to the state would be renovated. Kerala Palace in Kuttalam in Tamil Nadu, Government Arts College,Thrissur, Town Hall, Thrissur, Assembly hall of Cochin State, which is situated on the compound of Govt Law College, Ernakulam, Court Complex in North Paravoor, Rest House in Fort Kochi, Court Complex in Koyilandy and Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Kozhikode are the buildings selected for the first phase under the Heritage Building Conservation Project.According to a senior PWD official, the programme is in its initial phase. “Kerala Palace in Kuttalam, Rest House in Fort Kochi and Town Hall in Thrissur would be renovated by the Architectural Department of the state PWD.The plan would be considered after presenting a detailed report to the government.All other buildings will be renovated by some other concessionaires,” the official said.
