THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is in the hands of the youth that the future of the country lies and that is why a Guru’s role becomes prominent. It is the teacher who guides and channelises the energy of the youth to the right direction, Lt.Gen P S Bhalla, director general of National Cadet Corps (NCC) said. He was throwing light on the reason behind the conferring of army ranks to two Vice-Chancellors, that of Kerala and Mahatma Gandhi Universities, at a function held at the Senate Chamber here on Thursday. “If there is a visible God, then it is the teacher who guides the youngsters,” Lt Gen Bhalla said. He added that wherever he travelled in the country he met charged, vibrant and dynamic youngsters who were able to shoulder the responsibility of the country’s future. He conferred the honorary Colonel ranks on the Vice-Chancellors A Jayakrishnan and Rajan Gurukal of Kerala and MG Universities respectively. Speaking on the occasion, deputy director general of National Cadet Corps (NCC) Directorate of Kerala-Lakshadweep Brigadiar C Sandeepkumar said that the personalities of the two Vice-Chancellors reflected the role played by NCC in moulding them. The duo were NCC cadets during their younger days. A Keralite, also an alumnus of Kerala University, Brigadier Sandeepkumar was a student of NSS College, Changanassery. He said that the NCC cadets must take inspiration from the good examples set by eminent personalities and take up the responsibility of doing good for the nation.
