BANGALORE: Although the BBMP seems to be struggling to raise funds for the development of parks, the newly formed Lakshmidevi Work Park Assosiation has managed to install filters providing drinking water facility to the visitors among many other facilities. “An amount of `30,000 has been contributed by our assosiation for the welfare of the citizens.” said Sanjeevaiah, the treasurer of the assosiation. He also stated that they look after the maintenance of the toilets. The assosiation, which was formed only a year ago, supervises the park and addresses concerns of non-availability of water and sanitation. The park also faces an ignorant eye from the BBMP in terms of play facilities. Some swings are broken and the maintenance of the garden is not proper. A fountain has been installed but it does not work any longer, is what we have learnt from the residents surrounding the park. Earlier the park used to be open from 10 am to 5 pm. Then, citizens were charged `2 to enter the park. The reason may be explained according to what Deepa, a resident living opposite to the park told us. “I used to feel extremely uncomfortable visiting the parks with the behaviour exhibited by couples.” As indicated by her, she also stated that there used to be frequent visit of sex workers in the park. The park, which now opens at 4 am and re-opens at 5 pm, is otherwise a safe and a blissful park. Sanjeevaiah, being an old resident of the area stated that Lakshmidevi park has become one of the most popular parks among 22 other parks in Koramangla. “It is true that the garbage may be due to the low maintenance. However, it has also been seen that the citizens themselves litter the area. We hope that every citizen makes use of the dustbin that has been provided in the park,” he said.
