Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police chief on Friday ordered a probe into the alleged assault on a woman by an IRS official in the presence of a Police Inspector, the footage of which was broadcast by a local TV channel. "I told my DCP (Balanagar Zone) to conduct an enquiry and submit a report to me. Based on that we will take a decision. As per the TV footage, the IRS official is alleged to have manhandled a woman over some matter and provoked her to attempt suicide," Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dwarka Tirumala Rao told PTI on Friday night.
The TV footage claimed that the woman was being allegedly hit by the IRS official in the presence of a Police Inspector attached to Balanagar police station, the top cop said. "...we have to go into the details and I have asked the higher police officers to enquire into the matter and further details are awaited," Rao said, when asked about the alleged incident. According to the TV footage, the woman, a government employee allegedly wrote a note and attempted suicide accusing the Indian Revenue Service official of harassing her and her family members besides demanding Rs 25 lakh in cash and even to marry her.
However, the IRS official, who was said to have spoken to the news channel denied all the allegations and termed the woman as a "blackmailer" and claimed that he had sold a piece of land to the woman's family and they owed him money. He sought a full-fledged investigation in the matter and asked the channel to come out with facts rather than showing the video in bits.
