Tarun Tahiliani made his stop in the city to showcase the Tarun Tahiliani Bridal Couture Exposition 2011. A novel and larger-than-life experiential extravaganza, the Exposition promises a new benchmark in luxury. In its third season now, the Exposition displays India’s rich heritage in a unique way, by styling traditional clothes and techniques in a contemporary manner. The theme chosen for this year in Artisanal-Bringing the Craft to the Fore - a blend of Indian finery with a layered western construct.“This is the first time the exposition is held here in the city. The exposition presents our rich heritage with the finest weaves, embroideries, jewels, stones and techniques. This, we hope, will bring our artisans and processes to the fore, resulting in a new luxe and fine fit that is uniquely Indian in taste,” says Tarun adding, “Everything is luxurious, shapely, western silhouetted but with Indian sensibility. I’ve used colours like shell pink, ivory, reds and brown in fabrics like sheer tulle, velvet, georgettes and soft net. I’ve used the finest of weaves, embroideries, jewels, stones and techniques. We have done saree drapes, anarkalis, lehengas with different shapes.”Talking about the fashion scene in the city, Tarun says, “I don’t know much about the place, but I think I should frequent here. The fashion in Hyderabad is what it was in Delhi 20 years ago because I think that fashion doesn’t change that quickly in this city.” Tahiliani, who is most popular for his bridal couture, adds, “I believe that a bride should not wear something that overpowers her. What one should wear is their own confidence and everything else falls into place.”
