THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Navarathri festival at Aryasala Devi Temple will be held from September 26 to October 8. The idol of Kumara Swamy or Lord Subramanian, the silver horse and the palanquin brought from Kumara Swamy Temple in Tamil Nadu will be kept at the temple during this period. ‘Abhishekam’ will be offered to the idol from September 27 to October 5. Those who would like to offer the same should book in advance with the temple on September 17 at 5.30 am. Music programmes and cultural events will be held during the festival days. Those who wish to hold programmes for free and those planning ‘arangettam’ should register in advance. Free food will be provided on all days of the festival. Those interested in holding ‘annadanam’ should register their names with the temple. Meanwhile, the temple authorities are a worried lot, thanks to a dilapidated drain en route to the temple. “The silver horse weighing 1,000 kg has to be carried along this road. We just hope the authorities do something to repair the road before the beginning of the festival,” said a temple office-bearer. When a pipeline along this route was repaired and re-tarring was done, the drain got blocked. When water started overflowing, the drain was dug open, thus making a trench. “If nothing is done, there is every possibility that people might fall into the trench,” the office-bearer said.
