Anand, playing with white pieces, settled for a draw against champion Carlsen. The Norwegian leads 5.5-4.5 with just two games to go in the 12-game rubber.

Trailing by a point with just three games to go, challenger Viswanathan Anand needs a win today to bring the championship at level pegging.

The last game ended in a quick draw after just 20 moves, maintaining Magnus Carlsen's one-point at 5-4.

The Norwegian now needs just 1.5 points to defend his crown as the first man to reach 6.5 points is declared the winner.
