Assign a space for meditation
Assign a space for meditation
Respecting time and space while meditating will link us to our soul and make us more disciplined and charged

When we sit down to meditate anytime during this period, we find it very easy to concentrate. Our body and mind are refreshed after a good night’s sleep. There are no demands upon our time or attention. Since the day is just beginning, we have not yet engaged the mind in any activity. So, it is still fresh, pure and pristine. Therefore, it is not preoccupied, distracted, jumpy or restless. It does not need any time to unwind or settle down. If our meditation is slotted for any other time of the day, it will be disrupted if something comes up suddenly and we may even be compelled to miss it altogether.

The chance of this happening early in the morning is very unlikely. When we begin our day with meditation in this way, our spiritual batteries, i.e., our heart and feelings are tender and get fully charged. This will express itself as inspiration in all our activities through the day and make each moment extraordinary and perfect. We will be able to cope up with everything enthusiastically and efficiently and still remain fresh and energetic at the end of the day. If we find it difficult to meditate in the morning, we can do it in the late evening or at any other time that is convenient to us, but we should stick to this slot with complete commitment.

Meditating in the same place every day is equally important. The mind is basically a creature of habit and it associates each place with a certain activity. That is why our houses are so well organised to accommodate all our activities. We cook in the kitchen, eat in the dining room and sleep in the bedroom. We never try to cook in the bedroom or sleep in the kitchen, do we? Similarly, when we assign a definite space for our meditation, two things happen. Firstly, the mind begins to associate that space only with meditation and as soon as we are there, it automatically goes into a disciplined and meditative mode. This place can be anywhere in our house - it may be a part of our bedroom or living room, or it may be a space, nook, corner or room that we set aside specially for this.

Secondly, when we meditate in the same place every day, that place gets more and more charged with the spiritual vibrations emanating from us. This helps us to focus easily and penetrate into great depths inside our hearts each time we meditate.

Now my dear friend, before we move on to the next aspect, you must take a look at your life and make sure that you are respecting time and space by implementing this discipline.

For the next five days, make this resolve when you meditate, “I will respect and value the time and space that has been given to me. I will value time and cherish every single minute as a wonderful gift.

I will structure my life on the foundation of discipline by regulating all my activities punctually and systematically.” In five days, when your life has been streamlined on the basis of discipline, we will learn and practice a wonderful breathing technique that will link us to our Soul.
