CHENNAI: “Big thanks to Kamalanathan and The New Indian Express for helping me return safely to India,” were the first words uttered by Tamil Nadu-based crane operator Dilton — who was stuck in Malaysia for the past three months — after touching down at the Anna International Airport here on Monday. The 45-year-old Dilton told Express, “The reports published in Express were the ultimate push for my case there and the Indian High Commission officials in Kuala Lumpur finally gave me the travel document that I was desperately seeking over the past three months.”And for Judes Dilton, it was end to an year-long wait for her husband’s arrival. Relieved after seeing him back on Indian soil, she said, “Without Kamalanathan in Malaysia and The New Indian Express in Chennai, this meeting could not have happened today and we are grateful to both.”According to her, the lethargic attitude of the Indian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur was to blame for the delay in her husband’s return.“Whenever Dilton approached the officials in Kuala Lumpur in the past seeking an Emergency Certificate (EC) to return to India for treatment as advised by doctors in that country, he was denied a fair hearing and the treatment meted out on him on such occasions was nothing short of pathetic,” Judes told Express. While Dilton plans to stay in his native Tuticorin for getting treated for his psychiatric ailment, Judes firmly ruled out any foreign assignments for him in future.
