Bangla govt to take over Suchitra Sen's house
The court has ordered authorities to clear the house from land grabbers in 7 days.

Dhaka: Bangladesh High Court today ordered the authorities to clear ancestral house of noted actress Suchitra Sen in Pabna from land grabbers within seven days.

Also directing the government to protect the house, a two-member bench of the court asked for a compliance report to be placed before it in 10 days after taking action against illegal squatters.

The bench of justices AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and Gobinda Chandra Tagore passed the order following a petition filed by a human rights group, Daily Star reported.

The Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) moved the petition as public interest litigation based on a Bangla daily report published on July 13 saying that the house of Suchitra Sen is not being freed from the possession of Jamaat.

The petitioner prayed to the court to pass necessary order to protect the house.

The bench also issued a rule upon the government to explain in two weeks why its inaction to take appropriate legal step against the land grabbers of Sen's house should not be declared illegal and why it should not be directed to

ensure protection of the house.
