New Delhi: ‘Barfi!’ is among those rare Bollywood films that get positive reviews from all types of reviewers. The film is decorated with brilliant performances and superb music. Anurag Basu is not a new director and he knows how to handle the newcomers, but even he wouldn’t have expected such a fine performance from a new actor.
Despite excellent acting skills displayed by Ranbir and Priyanka, Ileana D’Cruz managed to leave her impression on the audiences. Though this was Ileana’s first film in Hindi but the actress never looked uneasy. She looked elegant, beautiful and most importantly confident in ‘Barfi!’.
The basic story line of ‘barfi!’ is woven around a deaf-mute boy who takes care of an autistic girl. At the first glance, Ileana doesn’t seem to be the primary character of the film but her presence gets strongly felt as the film progresses.
In a film that heavily relies on music and picturesque landscapes, Ileana does much more than just looking pretty.
She is among the top heroines of Southern film industries, and she has achieved this feat in just six years. Her temperament and enthusiasm for work could be justified with the fact that Ileana won the Filmfare Award for most promising debut in South for ‘Devadasu’ (2006). She never looked back since then and continued giving good performances. Slowly and steadily, she has reached to a stage where she is visible in almost every important Southern film. ‘Nanban’, ‘Julayi’ and ‘Devudu Chesina Manushulu’ are the examples of her rising stature.
The onscreen name Shruti seems lucky for her. She played Shruti for the first time in 2006 hit ‘Pokiri’, and now Ileana has returned to the same name after six years in ‘Barfi!’.
Her ‘Barfi!’ performance makes her one of the stronger contenders of the best debut in Bollywood this year. As an audience, one would just hope for better films from Ileana in future.
