CHENNAI: The Anti-Corruption Branch of Central Bureau of Investigation, Chennai, has seized cash and documents from the residence and locker belonging to Muralikrishnan, Superintendent of Customs, presently Authorised Officer, who was arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 on the allegation that he demanded `50,000 as illegal gratification.The complainant had alleged that the officer demanded the bribe for obtaining Bill of Entry in the name of the complainant’s firm for taking out scrap from Special Economic Zone. He was caught red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of `50,000 from the complainant. Muralikrishnan was arrested on Monday and produced before the Principal Special Judge for CBI Cases, Chennai who remanded him to judicial custody till April 10. On Wednesday, cash of `14,71,500 and keys of two lockers were seized from his residence. Two lockers were also opened and cash of `20,00,500, Term Deposits receipts for `7,36,548, pass book of RD in Post Office having balance of `1,40,000, Fixed Deposit receipt for `4,20,000 were seized. Six bank accounts having balance of `10,09,345 were frozen and three documents pertaining to immovable property worth `19,00,000 were also seized. Further inquiry is on, the CBI said in a release.
