Travel enthusiasts will hit the road with their two-wheelers or cars to visit a new place. Some prefer to hire drivers or book a bus ride. But in Southern Karnataka, two adventurous youths from Kanara in Dakshin Kannada accomplished the feat of visiting five Jyotirlingas in India by travelling in an auto-rickshaw. These two childhood friends set forth on their journey in the wee hours of June 29, at around 4 am and returned on July 9.

While visiting pilgrim places, people prefer to take the train, flight or bus. But these two friends decided to take a private auto-rickshaw to accomplish their dream. A resident of Melkar, Vijeth Nayak is a catering businessman, while his childhood friend, Vishwas Prabhu, a software engineer, who resides in Kalladka, set out for an adventure in an auto-rickshaw. The duo completed their pilgrimage to the Jyotirlingas in Maharashtra and Gujarat.

How much did the duo spend on their travel?

The budget travellers opted to explore the place more and keep their expenses to a bare minimum. Hence, they opted to go on the trip on an auto-rickshaw. Since it was a private vehicle, they did not need a tourist pass or pay any toll charges. They were able to accomplish the feat in just Rs 14,500.

Which places did they visit?

Vijeth and Vishwas travelled in an auto-rickshaw and crossed Karnataka and Goa. They visited the Jyotirlinga in Maharashtra- Bhimashankar, Trimbakeshwar, Grishneshwar and in Gujarat- Nageshwar and Somnath. The duo thoroughly explored places like the Ellora Caves, Dwarka, Statue of Unity and others.

Vijeth Nayak and Vishwas Prabhu drove the auto-rickshaw every three hours before switching between themselves. This helped them remove any travel fatigue. Over their 11-day trip to the Jyotirlingas, they prepared meals and snacks all by themselves in the auto. They carried all the necessary utensils, gas stoves and other provisions to prevent buying food. After pulling off a perfect trip together, the two childhood best friends dream of making similar trips around in the future.
