Pretoria: An American couple, who first met each other on a South African Airways (SAA) flight four years ago, tied knot in the same flight.
Suzy Davis and Terry Pawelko from the Atlanta city of Georgia in US, exchanged vows in the presence of SAA Captain Richard Holdengarde on board flight SA343 from Johannesburg to Cape Town on Friday.
"It was love at first sight from the moment we met at the (Johannesburg International) airport. I couldn't take my eyes off him the entire flight to Cape Town," said Davis.
The civil ceremony, which took place 30,000 feet above sea level, was the airline's first ever in-flight wedding.
About 30 of the couple's friends and family attended the ceremony that was met with great enthusiasm from fellow passengers, who wished the couple well on their arrival in Cape Town.
Passengers on board received decorative chocolates and specially designed chewing gums from the airline.
"It has been a great pleasure to have had the opportunity to share this special moment with Suzy and Terry and to have made their dream a reality," SAA head of corporate communications Jacqui O'Sullivan said.
