CWG: 'Netball technical issues sorted out'
Not everything is hunky-dory with the organisation of the CWG netball event.

New Delhi: Not everything is hunky-dory with the organisation of the Commonwealth Games netball event being held at the Thyagraj Sport complex.

Drivers transporting officials and athletes from the village to the state-of-the-art stadium have lost their way at times leading to late reporting of them at the venue.

Some technical officials have also threatened to quit in protest, unless their complaints are addressed.

The officials are reportedly not happy with the over-zealous security arrangements that have seen tampons being banned from the venue and confiscated at security checkpoints, admitted one official connected with the event.

Glitches exist with the transport system too with many officials and athletes turning up late at the venue as the bus drivers don't know the location of their hotels and village and have lost their way.

The England netball team had an interesting experience when the driver of their vehicle got confused and took them to the Dhyan Chand stadium instead of the Thyagraj Sports complex.

However, Deputy competition manager Bimla Pawar asserted that most of the technical issues have now been sorted out.

"There were some small issues but everything has been sorted out and the matches started in time today," Pawar told PTI.

Asked about the issues concerning security, Bimla said it will take some more time for the athletes and officials to get used to them.

"We need security. There have been so many threats and it is for the well-being of the athletes and officials only.

May be, it will take a little time (to get used to), but there has been no issue," she said.

"On Sunday, the England netball team was taken to the hockey stadium by the driver. He got confused but there was no complaint," she added.
