New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested Mohammad Yusuf, the handler of top underworld don Ejaz Lakdawala.

Yusuf was planning to assassinate two businessmen. Lakdawala had tasked Yusuf with recruiting sharp shooters from Punjab for the assassinations.

Lakdawala has been operating through his handlers abroad. He was an associate of Dawood Ibrahim but later fell out over disputes.

In May 2003, he was rumored to have been killed when Dawood's gang-members, irked by his alliance with rival Chota Rajan, opened fire at him in a crowded market in Bangkok.

However, he survived and moved to Canada. In May 2004, he was arrested by the Canadian Police in Ottawa. He had an Interpol red corner notice against him.
